New Relic’s Futurestack 2016 conference is just over a week away and as a Silver Sponsor, Apica is looking forward to seeing fellow partners there. But we’re also looking forward to being in San Francisco in general. It’s not every day we attend a conference at a venue on the waters of the west coast. San Francisco is such a great place to explore, the weather is enjoyable, the scenery is superb and the culture has brought foods from all over the world. We’ve got a short list of a few of our favorite places you should check out in any downtime you may have before or after FutureStack activities.
The renowned pile of seals at Pier 39. The conference is taking place at Pier 27, so it’s only a short ten-minute walk (along the ocean boardwalk) to check out this tourist hot-spot. There’s about a hundred seals on top of each other, slapping, yelling and sleeping at any hour of the day. Pier 39 is also the departure spot for Alcatraz, but take note: if you want to visit the prison, book in advance. They don’t sell same-day tickets.
– For all the coffee lovers coming. Once upon a time the BB founder vowed to, “only sell coffee less than 48 hours out of the roaster, so they may enjoy coffee at peak flavor.” He wasn’t kidding, this coffee is like nothing we’ve tried. It’s a local roaster and there’s a shop in the Ferry Building a few blocks from the conference. There’s also a Farmer’s Market here on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Anchor Brewing Company – San Francisco has a strong brewery scene and this is a cool place to have some of those after-conference, work meetings. We recommend their famous Anchor Steam Beer – it’s a refreshing amber beer with a bold finish. Since it’s half-way through November, Is it too early to also recommend the Christmas Ale?
Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop – The hot fudge sundae is un-freaking-real. Enough said.
You’ll feel better about eating the sundae. San Francisco offers breath-taking panoramas of the entire city. Take a hike, it’ll balance that conference exhaustion we all get. You’re bound to get postcard perfect views and gorgeous captures (except on foggy days) when you explore any of the hill-top vista points in the city.
